Alternating rep schemes for PPL?

Hello everyone, first time posting here and I've got a question.

I am currently following the PPL program on the wiki after about a year of half-assing it at the gym, however, I tweaked it so as to alternate between the 5×5 and 3×8-12 rep schemes.

What I mean is:

So let's say it's Monday and it's push day, I would do all compound lifts (benchpress, OHP, Incline Dumbell) in 5×5, as to focus more on strength instead of hypertrophy.

However on Friday, which is also push day, I would pull some weight off and then do all those same lifts in the 3×8-12 rep range, doing more volume and focusing on hypertrophy instead of strength.

My main reason for doing this is I imagine that if I focus on lifting for strength and growth at the same time I'll get the best of both worlds. As they complement each other really well. I've done this for a few months now and it feels pretty good, my lifts have gone up and I am happy with what I am doing.

What I want to ask is: am I spinning my wheels here? Would sticking to a single rep range for compounds be better? I don't think I've ever seen this topic come up, so if anyone has done something similar to this, would you mind sharing your experiences?
