Will I screw up my knees by running at 310 lbs?

Will I screw up my knees by running at 310 lbs?I lost 20 lbs so far in 6 months mostly through biking. I have a friend that has been taking me to the gym a few days a week and I surprisingly seem to be able to keep up with him on the track but my knees end up on fire every time. I suggested swimming instead but he doesn't seem too keen on it. So my question is, will I do much long term damage to my knees by running two or three times a week at my weight? submitted by /u/snogo [link] [comments]

Squat form check

Squat form checkLink: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mTcpsPHNF8U&feature=youtu.be Male 5'11" 155 lbs High-bar squat, 135 lbs My max is 185 lbs Other: I used to be able to squat over 200 Junior year of high school but from during wrestling I injured my lower back (degenerative disk disease, facet arthrosis, protruding disk, stress reaction, bulging disk). Two and a half years later I'm starting to squat again and haven't had much pain. I'm not trying to go for extreme weight 1RM because I know I'll put my back at risk, but instead going for hypertrophy to increase strength. Also, I'm considering using my wrestling shoes for squatting because the Nikes I'm wearing in the video don't help much with my foot placement. I started deadlifting as well, (225 lb. max) and haven't had pain. How will my lower back react to deadlifting over time? submitted by /u/Zakkour75 [link] [comments]

Low volume, high intensity cardio or high volume, low intensity cardio for weight loss within the 8-15% bf range?

Low volume, high intensity cardio or high volume, low intensity cardio for weight loss within the 8-15% bf range?Lost a good 10kg over the last year from lifting and no cardio, but plateaued in fat loss about a month ago. So I introduced 2m runs on the treadmill at the start of my workouts but have not made any major fat loss gains so was just wondering if there was anything I could do to help in getting even more lean? I was thinking higher volume cardio like a 10m jog every workout. Cheers submitted by /u/ScotlandsFinest [link] [comments]

Is my bench progress slow?

Is my bench progress slow?Hi all!! A little background- I have been consistently working out since January 8 this year (having only worked out lightly for a month or two in the past). I am a small framed guy and have been skinny and looked down upon all my life, but i am finally gaining mass now! At age 28 (finally lol). I am now totally into building up my body and looking awesome in some time. I have an average (generic, if you will) routine, training 6 days of the week-chest-back-shoulder-biceps-triceps. I benched just the bar when i started (please dont lol), I can now do 6 reps of 55pounds but have to drop back to 44pounds for the remaining sets (target 10repsx4). All in all i feel awesome and i have been consistently adding weight to all my exercises. Haven't stalled on any as of now but i would like to know whether my bench progression is very slow/slow/ok or good enough? PS: The inbody body composition machine tells me i gained around 5.7pounds in lean muscle and 9.7pounds in fat free mass (measured in similar conditions) in the past 3 months ever since i started. Also, i am eating now like i have never eaten before! submitted by /u/woahacow [link] [comments]

I'm too tall to do Overhead Presses in my gym.

I'm too tall to do Overhead Presses in my gym.I've decided to give Stronglifts 5x5 a try - only problem is: I can't do Overhead Presses inside my gym. When i raise my hands in the air i hit the ceiling (Being tall sometimes has its downsides..). So my question is; can i simply do these while sitting on a bench? Or is there an alternative to this exercise? submitted by /u/thedevilisok [link] [comments]

How to build more chest?

How to build more chest? So in the first semester of grade 11 I took fitness and it helped quite a bit for my muscle growth. I also noticed big improvements in things like bench press and hex bar. It's been around 3 months since I last did a full workout, I don't want to lose the muscles I built, so I decided to get back to exercising. The thing is I'm fine with my biceps & triceps and legs. However, I want to build my chest muscles; specifically my pectorals and abs. Besides doing bench press and a few variations, how would I build those muscles specifically? Even during the 5 months of my fitness course, I only noticed slight and somewhat noticeable differences in my chest area. By improving my chest, should I eat more food? For further info: I'm 5'5, 16 years, and 125 lbs. If you can help me, that would be great. submitted by /u/NecroSpace [link] [comments]

A breakfast that satiates almost all day and helps weight loss!

Just want to share my experience with everyone. I know oatmeal and fruit and all kinds of sugary cereals and hot drinks are a lot people's choice for breakfast. However, I have found that eleminating all carbs and sugar in the first meal of the day and replacing it with healthy fats (coconut oil, grassfed butter) and healthy proteins(eggs) REALLY satiates me for a long time. As a result of eating plenty of these fats and proteins in the morning I lost a significant amount of weight and maintained it. Has anyone had a similar experience or care to share your thoughts?

Has cutting sugar/fast-release-carbs from your diet given you benefits aside from just weight loss?

Has cutting sugar/fast-release-carbs from your diet given you benefits aside from just weight loss?So many people I know at the gym claim sugar/carbs are the worst thing in the world for you. As a skinny guy always trying to put on weight, I'm not worried about sugar in the same way. Would you still recommend cutting down my sugar intake and what extra benefits does this have? How do you keep the right mindset when you just lose weight instead of gaining

How do you keep the right mindset when you just lose weight instead of gainingMy twin brother and I recently got into an accident, everyone is fine, but we don't have a car at the moment to go to the gym since it's a far distance. Now for me I also got sick, so I'm not eating right. In the past 6 days I've lost 4 pounds. I just wanna know how do you keep the right mind set, when things like this happen. I feel like every time I get back to the gym something bad happens. I can easily work out at home till I have a ride to the gym, but the eating and gaining weight part frustrates me, all that work on weight, just gone. submitted by /u/josephadam1 [link] [comments]

lost all my gains

lost all my gainsHi, around July of last year I was weighing in at 164 (I'm 5'4) and I was lean muscle. Around September I got mono and haven't been back to the gym since. I lost most of my gains, however I still look very lean. But I'm now at around 138-140. My question is should I start out with Sl5x5 to get back into it? or just go back to the same routines I was doing? When I started lifting around a two years ago I was 127. So I did actually have a huge jump. My goals are: Reform my posture that was lost due to just becoming an utter potato. Get back to around 155 lean Become incredibly flexible/decent cardio. Is the 21 day fix worth the hype?

Is the 21 day fix worth the hype?Hey there! Recently I've become pretty out of shape and gaining weight. I have really awful dietary habits (only eat 1-2 meals a day due to constantly being on the go). I want to find a way to develop a better diet and maybe lose a few lbs. I've been offered to try out the 21 day fix. Is it worth it? Should I be doing something else instead? Thanks in advance! Genuinely shocked

Genuinely shockedOver the last few weeks I've started to head to the gym regularly. (there may or may not be a pretty girl involved) I hadn't thought about it much but today I decided I would see what I weigh. I met someone there who has decided to help guide my physical efforts because I'm a little bit of a fish out of water. For the last 4 years the heaviest I've ever been is 126 pounds. For the record I'm 5'11". So I'm a pretty scrawny guy. But today I weighed in at 138.5. Effectively, I've gained 15 pounds. And I'm shocked. I'm still as thin as ever. My ribs are still clearly visible if I take off my shirt. So I'm fairly confident it's mostly muscle. But I guess between lugging my niece around and going to the gym I've gained quite a bit of weight. I'm not really too sure where/when the bulk of it came from. But it's a victory nonetheless and I wanted to share submitted by /u/mpmmuirhead [link] [comments]

Pear-shaped people, how did you lose the stubborn leg and thigh fat?

I'm 169cm and 67kgs and I'm currently under a weight loss process that's been working so far, losing fat from all over the body. But I dread one thing: the leg fat. I'm pear-shaped and I know that even though I will lose a lot of fat to the point I look very thin, I will somehow still have fat in the lower area like my legs and thighs mostly. I have had 55 kgs in the past (my lowest weight and the same height) and still had that stubborn fat in my legs was there, thighs still chaffing, and I was really skinny in the superior area, looked weird. How do you manage that?

Day 250: Down 40lbs 29/m

Last week I officially hit the 40 lb bench mark for losing weight. I've also reached day 250 in MyFitnessPal. Long story short, like many others here, I was always a bigger kid. Never quite 100% comfortable in my body but never had enough motivation to do anything about it. I've "rollercoastered" up and down 20 lbs my entire life.

Fast forward to last July. I was getting over horrible depression from my mom passing away, dealing with a new job that at the time wasn't going so great, and being dad to three kids under the age of 3. I was the heaviest I have ever been, 250lbs is what my fitbit tells me (synced with aria scale). I was lazy, unmotivated, eating like crap and overall felt like crap.

I was having a conversation with my wife when she was bugging me what I wanted for my bday (also in july). After pretty much avoiding the conversation (yay depression) she asked me if i would be offended if she bought me a gym membership. In the 10 years previously she's seen my lose/gain the +-20lbs but saw how much better i did with a gym routine.

I reluctantly agreed (I knew it would be good for me to get over the depression at minimum). Soon after the first couple trips to the gym I knew i needed a plan. My father is an ex-bodybuilder so getting a weight regimen was never an issue. However, I knew this would require more than kicking my ass in the gym for a few hours a week. Ultimately, I found this sub and figured out the idea behind calorie counting. I started with roughly 2190 calories a day. I stuck to the budget and the 3/week running/lifting regimen. Slowly but surely I was losing the 1-2 pounds a week.

here are few before/after photos. http://ift.tt/1SoY2DP

My original goal weight was 220 from 250 but i've since moved it down to 205. I'm currently at 208. I've just recently switched my focus from true weight loss to now bulking up a bit. I'm now on a ~1900 calorie limit but doing everything in my power to get 200g of protein in a day. Let's just say "low cal" protein drinks are my friend now.

Either way, just wanted to share my story. For those looking to start, just do it. Its not easy, but the tracking calories turns into routine. I still very much have pizza, ribs, cake etc but leverage my calories to allow it. Its amazing how a protein drink in teh AM, a salad for lunch and then a few slices of pizza for dinner can still fit into your allotted calories. Of course, dont do it everything but definitely have fun, just stay disciplined :)

My weight loss journey, 2 years and 250 pounds lost.

Before/after picture. http://ift.tt/1UvIaDx

I'm not that good in English so be prepared . 4 years ago my doctor found out that I had big problem with pre diabetes and blood pressure . I was devastated to learn that at 24 years old I was sick like an old man ... It really throw me into a big deep depression . I took 70 more pounds in 2 years after that to be at my maximum weight 469 pounds ( I'm 6foot5). Then everything changed . I was sick at home unable to work (I'm a nurse...)because I had so much problem with my health and body. Life at this point was just horrible for me and I secretly wanted to die as quickly as possible. Then I received the phone call that changed my life for ever.. My dad was involve in a fatal car crash ... I was DEVASTATED . He was the only one on earth who understand me and loving me even if I was fat and really a failure for him . It was horrible for me . 3 day after he passed at exactly 3:21 a.m I wake up in my bed at my house cover in sweat because I had sleep apnea it was at this point a what call it ''fire'' exploded in me . It was at that point where I realize that I was really unhappy and in a freaking bad shape for a young men . I had an awakening I said to my self ( wow I'm really fucking fat and I'm NOT ok with this now). In the morning at 8 a.m I have call my doctor office to get an appointment for discussing weight loss . My doctor recommended me the bariatric surgery because my back and blood pressure was too bad for just exercise to lose the weight. I did wanted to lose it all by myself but I deceived to follow my doctor recommendation . I did one month without eating any sugar or bad food before the surgery because my liver was too big to operate my without too much risk . I lost 40 pounds just by cutting sugar , pop , fast food , fried food . Then my doctor removed 90% of my stomach ( I have the picture of my stomach outside me body if you want to see it ). Soon after the surgery I was able to take some walk and then begin my 2 years transformation (28 March 2014- now. I did a lot of cardio training in a gym with guidance of my doctor and trainers and managed to lost a good amount of weight .. 250 pounds to be exact . Started at 469 pounds and as today I weight 219 pounds ( which is kind of good for a 6foot5 guy). I am what I always wanted to be now , I'm in good shape both mentally and physically but the most important for me I don't feel now like a living failure. I will always regret that my dad is not able to see me now .. Happy and no longer morbidly obese . I am not the perfect example since I did get a bariatric surgery but god damn I just feel so alive now it's almost magical . I'm sorry if it was hard to read I'm on mobile and I'm not an expert in English but I wanted to share my stories with you r/loseit because some of you I'm sure still need motivation and if I was able to do it then anyone can do it ... Sometime you just need something to lit the fires side of you that you need to achieve what you want .

Am I the only one that thinks this subreddit does the opposite of its intentions?

I've been a member if this subreddit for a few months and I'm starting to realize that instead of giving me that extra little boost to lose the weight, I feel discouraged and that my efforts aren't good enough.

I keep seeing people lose crazy amounts of weight in short time frames and people applauding it. People losing weight by doing a calorie deficit, people doing keto and people bashing the gym because weight loss only happens in the kitchen.

I feel I've done well in the past year to lose weight, but every time I look at this subreddit I'm left discouraged that it hasn't been enough and I'm not doing it the right way.

Does anyone else feel like this? Maybe it's because of the voting system and the majority have a hard on for the keto diet, I'm not sure.

eating back exercise calories?

hello, I used http://ift.tt/Zpx1rH to calculate how much I should eat to lose weight, and it says I should eat about 1900 for fat loss(15m, 70kilo, 173cm and exercise 3x per week).

When I do my exercise now(bicycling for about 2 hours) should I eat back the calories I burned there? Or are the calories already somewhat calculated in the 1900 calories I should eat?

Thanks in advance

Does anyone here actually use MyFitnessPal properly?

Does anyone here actually use MyFitnessPal properly?Just in a curious mind state at the moment... It seem's that a lot of people on here come to ask advice because they're either not gaining weight or not losing weight. Upon further inspection, it turns out they're just eyeballing portions, hoping that they will either lose weight or gain weight. If not, then they're using MyFitnessPal but eyeballing portions and using generic entries and generic measurements like 'cup' or 'serving'. Does anyone in here actually weigh food and use MyFitnessPal? submitted by /u/Sterineb [link] [comments]

Any reason not to do Strong Lifts 5x5?

Any reason not to do Strong Lifts 5x5?Hey guys. So I have been going to the gym for about 2.5 months. For the first 2 months I did full body workouts every other day. On off days I do cardio(running) for about 30-45 minutes. 2 weeks ago I moved onto a split program, split between upper body and legs/core. It's alright but I don't quite like it. So is there any reason why I shouldn't be doing the 5x5 Strong Lifts program? I heard really good things about it. A friend at the gym offered to ask his friend who is a personal trainer to help me out with form in the beginning. I'm not sure how much I currently lift exactly but I can do about 370LBS on the vertical leg press(?) and about 160LBS on the compound row machine. submitted by /u/Secerbus [link] [comments]

Form check 167.5kg deadlift

Form check 167.5kg deadliftSo, first time posting a form check. Apologies if it's terrible (the post, that is). https://youtu.be/lQskkpiJK7Q It's 167.5kg (369lb) on the bar for a triple. I'm currently about 100kg (220lb) bodyweight, with a 1rm of 200kg. (441lb) I'm doing heavy triples once a week at the moment, going up in 2.5kg each week then dropping down about 25kg and doing some speed sets of 5 reps. My main question is if there any glaring negative points about my form. It feels a little like my lower back is rounded, but there's no pain or discomfort so I'm not sure. I've been told by other gym members that my form is fine (one guy being the county runner up in the latest strongman competition, with a pb of around 320kg (ish. I can't remember the exact figure, but he's strong as fuck)), but I thought other views and opinions can't hurt. Any feedback is welcome. submitted by /u/Cornupication [link] [comments]

Doing the Impossible: Reversing Type 2 Diabetes and Losing 80 Pounds

diabetes600

This is supposed to be impossible. Barb Mynott reversed her diabetes after 26 years of insulin dependence! She’s now off all medications. As a nice bonus she’s also lost 80 pounds.

Here’s how she did it (you can probably guess).

The Email

First off – your updated site is absolutely awesome – very professional, yet extremely user friendly! Congrats to all who worked to improve it!

Now, my update. You added my story a while back about ending my 26 year insulin, metformin, and a ton of other medication dependence.

The heaviest I was ever in my life was 264 lbs (120 kg), way back in 1992. From that time I had dropped to circling 200 to 220 (90–100 kg) for many years. I am 5’5″ (165 cm) and at 64 years of age I was morbidly obese.

I discovered Dietdoctor.com in early 2015. I studied it for several months then began following this way of living seriously in April of 2015. I was dedicated and determined and followed the plan of very strict low carb closely, until I would blow up and do something foolish, and begin again. This way of eating is simple, satiating and easy to manage and completely eliminated any need for insulin, metformin and all things diabetic, BUT, and this is a big but, one toe over the line into the carb world and my sugars soar! Thus, I call myself totally in remission, but not cured completely. The physiology of the plan for me is simple and when I added some long-term and short-term intermittent fasting, everything changed drastically!

Current stats, I am still 5’5″ (165 cm) but I now weigh 130 pounds (59 kg). I have eliminated all diabetic and cardiology medications. My blood pressure is a stable 94–97 over 64–68. My sugars are a constantly 4.3–4.9 mmol/l (77–88 mg/dl), quite amazing really considering they were frequently in the 30’s (500’s mg/dl) before!

From 210’ish (95 kg) to 130 lbs (59 kg) in just short of six months! More impressive are completely reset sugars, blood pressure, even my Crohn’s and esophageal diseases are improved. I think the fasting, many 3-day short term fasts and two 21-day total fasts really helped me. I find fasting very easy to do, once you get past the historic teaching of ‘need for food and to eat regularly’ you are, for the most part, fighting only your own mind and incorrect teaching about what our bodies can do! And that, in a nutshell, is my single remaining problem – the psychology of ‘carb addiction’. I can easily and strictly fast for 21 days but on day three of back to ‘normal’ eating I have ‘blown up’ and eaten a bit of junk…read carbs! My goal now is trying to learn the psychology of this system, cut my remaining carb addiction and live happily ever after as a diabetic in total remission with zero cardiac issues and almost completely free of medical challenges regarding diabetes and cardiology!

After 26 years of up to 172 units of Lantus daily with a sliding scale of short acting insulin and 2000 mg of metformin a day and statins and medications – this IS A MIRACLE for me!

If anyone has any insight into why I would fast completely, only water, for 21 days and then eat Scottish Tablet… read ‘fudge’…arrgghhh, on day three post fast. Please write and tell me! I am an older, wiser, retired RN who lives to read and learn – how could I be soooo stupid ? Yet, I have done it, not once but twice in just short of six months! Please email me (themynotts@gmail.com) if you can help… I surely do need it!

I can NEVER, NOT EVER say enough wonderful things about the ever evolving Dietdoctor.com and Dr. Andreas Eenfeldt and his guest Dr. Jason Fung! They LITERALLY saved my life! They can help you too! You just need to listen, learn, read and believe! Once I understood what my body could do to save me, thanks to Jason Fung’s teaching, and followed the lifestyle Andreas Eenfeldt is preaching. EVERYTHING in my life changed – every little thing! Thank you gentlemen, so very much!

Sincerely and with huge thanks !

Was worried about eating popcorn with salt last night...

Because I've been struggling with the last two or so pounds. However, I managed to break through those two pounds and decided it was time to have some air popped popcorn with some salt as a treat (it's been over a month since I've had some).

Dreading going on the scale this morning because I'm expecting some water weight from the salt and the carbs so late at night...

Scale says I dropped another 1.6 pounds since yesterday! Hopefully this is to be added to the progress I've been hoping for the past two weeks, since I've been working my arse off! A bit of a whoosh! That would be a real treat. Hopefully the loss sticks around.

Quick question: Almond milk alternative (taste-wise)?

Many smoothie recipes use almond milk. But it is like $15 per liter here so I'm looking for an alternative. I never tasted it so I don't know what to use. Any suggestions?

19m tips and advice

hi im 19m. Average height and weighing about 175-180 pounds. I've been falling into bad habites, physically and eating wise for a while and ive noticed im gaining weight and becoming less fit and energetic, im not content with the way i am atm and i know its only gonna get worse if i cant act on it asap. My eating habits are just straight up bad and i really want to find a way to eat healthy without cutting out foods i enjoy and i want to get the motivation and a proper fitness/exercise routine as i always give up on it after a little while. I'm not really sure where to start, looking online is really overwhelming as theres so many guides and things but i cant follow any of them. My goal is too lose 15-20 pounds and also become fit and get rid of the small pot i have and get a better looking chest/stomach. Equipment i have access too are treadmills, some weights, a bike. For eating i eat a lot of bought food, iregular eating schedule, skip meals, sometimes overeat on meals. I was hoping i could get some help of where to start? whats the best options for me? How to keep motivated? etc. Thanks :)

Stuck in the same weight, any tips?

Hi, I'm a 20 yr old female, 5'9, weighing 153 pounds. My measurements are 34-29-40. I have lost 34 pounds since April of 2015. My highest weight was 187. My goal was to reach 135 pounds but I have difficulty going down past 150. I've done it before but that was 2 years ago when I weighed 155 and lost 15 pounds. Even though I lost that weight I feel like I didn't really do it in the best way, I ate out a lot but healthy food like pollo tropical or subs from publix. And I started playing soccer again and going running on weekday mornings and sometimes skipping meals. But it worked, my question is, what would be the best way to lean out and tone my body? These are my activities: Monday/Wednesday/Sat/Sun: 1hr intense soccer Tues/Thurs: 1hr of Herbalife exercises (push-ups, squats, weight training with dumbells, etc) And some weekday mornings I go running for 20 minutes. This is how I lost more of my excess weight, I really like Herbalife exercises but idk if that will be enough to tone my body or if I should sign up for planet fitness. What do you recommend for me? Also what kind of food should I eat in order to reach that weight and lean out my lower stomach and thighs?

Starting again and I'm a little discouraged

I have finally decided to get my health back on track again, but I'm afraid it's useless. 5 years ago I weighed 305lbs, and decided to do weight watchers by using the calculator and doing my weigh ins myself to save money. After 9 months I was down to 215 and felt amazing. Unfortunately due to poor habits and coping stategies for stress and depression I am once again 305. It has been a gradual climb for the past 3 years. I definitely want to get down in the low two hundreds, but I feel like after I put all that work in again I'll just screw it up and gain it all back. Any tips you guys can give me to improve my confidence in keeping it off if I lose it again would be much appreciated.
