Has cutting sugar/fast-release-carbs from your diet given you benefits aside from just weight loss?

Has cutting sugar/fast-release-carbs from your diet given you benefits aside from just weight loss?So many people I know at the gym claim sugar/carbs are the worst thing in the world for you. As a skinny guy always trying to put on weight, I'm not worried about sugar in the same way. Would you still recommend cutting down my sugar intake and what extra benefits does this have?
