Fitness journey needing help

Fitness journey needing helpHey r/fitness this is my first time posting here and I was looking to get some help with my routine and any suggestions are welcome! I am a 6'4" 24 year old male recently cut down from 225 to 165 and found out about SL 5x5. After about 3 months I am sitting around 175. I want to change up my workout and switch to PHUL to continue my strength training but Im still a beginner and not quite sure where to start for numbers. My 5x5 numbers are 65 -> 245 Deadlift 1x5 60 -> 200 Squat 5x5 45 -> 145 Bench Press 5x5 45 -> 145 Row 5x5 45 -> 115 OHP 5x5 To a beginner like me changing from such an easy program to a seemingly more intense one is both exciting and frightening. Any tips on the transition and ideas on where to start with weight would be a great help! Also I have a 5x5 SL app that I used to track my progress does anyone know of a PHUL one I could use? tl:dr PHUL tips please! submitted by /u/deoxsys09 [link] [comments]

What if question about range of motion

What if question about range of motionWe all know that you should do all the exercises with a full ROM. But is that the most effective way to train? Let's take squats for example. Doing squats with 400lbs is hard. But not entire ROM is hard. First part is relatively easy, when you squat just a couple of inches. The hardest part is when you lower yourself completely down. With that in mind, doing squats with 400lbs doesn't do much for that 'easier' ROM. You choose your weight based on that hardest part. If time isn't a constraint (let's say it's your job to train everyday, the whole day), would it be better for your strength gains to split squats into, Heavy half-squats, and lighter full squats. Do you get what I mean? I don't know if this would be more effective than normal squats or any other exercise that has this 'issue'? submitted by /u/nikolaguca [link] [comments]

Legs strength imbalance

Legs strength imbalanceToday for the first time I did some single leg press and I found out that my right leg is weaker then the left. Do I keep exercising the same way and both legs will became equally stronger or do I need to move to some form of specific training to solve this problem? Googling around gave me a lot of discordant opinions. submitted by /u/smell_the_poubelle [link] [comments]

Weight loss related gift ideas for morbidly obese person that actually have a good chance of helping?

Weight loss related gift ideas for morbidly obese person that actually have a good chance of helping?Alright so my dad is 350lb and diabetic and lately I've nagged him into eating slightly better with me and also got him into weight lifting with me. He still eats sugary foods like he has a death wish and despite eating more protein/veg his diet still needs a lot of work. I'm thinking about just getting some weight lifting gloves but I don't think they would necessarily do anything to encourage him, also thinking about some sugar-free snack substitutes but I know they tend to suck. I really want something that will make a difference. It's a birthday gift btw. submitted by /u/Lord_Vectron [link] [comments]

Maria Got Rid of Acne and 44 Pounds with LCHF

Maria had suffered from acne for a long time and tried countless treatments. But no doctor ever gave her advice on a dietary change.

Here’s what happened when she tried LCHF:

The Email

Hello,

I’m reading the success stories on your website and am getting inspired, and thought I’d share mine.

I have always had a lot of trouble with acne, and for someone approaching 40, this is not particularly amusing. Through the years I have seen doctors many times and tried a lot, everything from creams that made my entire face dry up terribly, to pills that would make me suicidal. Pretty crazy when the dermatologist asks you if you have a social network who can pick you up, should you suffer this side effect. Not much made any difference, and when it did, the acne returned after the treatment ended. I have asked the doctors many times if I there was anything I could do to improve my skin by changing what I eat. But they have always said that it doesn’t matter.

About a year ago I heard that LCHF could help, but that wasn’t something any of my doctors told me. So I have tried. Unfortunately, I slip back to my old diet from time to time. But when I stay with LCHF my acne basically heals completely. As soon as I have a relapse into my sugar addiction, my acne comes right back. So I have drawn the conclusion that low-carb is my solution. All I have to do now is to stick to it.

I have to say that I have never eaten so much good food and as varied as I do when I eat LCHF. The fact that I have lost more than 45 lbs. (20 kg) is more of a positive side effect to me.

Unfortunately I don’t have any pictures I want to share. I have never been fond of being in front of the camera. Perhaps this will change soon…

Maria

Getting stronger, biceps getting larger, but no definition...:(

Getting stronger, biceps getting larger, but no definition...:(So I've been lifting for about a year regularly. I'm doing Starting Strength with other bicep/tricep lifts in addition because I'm vain. My arms are definitely getting larger and stronger, but they don't really have any definition. My shoulders are definitely more defined but I feel like my biceps just look like blobs. Am I doing something wrong? Should I change up my lifts? Genetics? submitted by /u/ikigaii [link] [comments]

5/3/1 bbb accessory question

5/3/1 bbb accessory questionAlright so my 1rm OHP is 75kg so my accessory work should be 0.75x60%=45kgx5x10 Now as my 5/3/1 weight goes up so does my accessory work obviously, but the rate of progression is too fast. In the first 6 cycles i could easily do all 5x10 ,but nowim failing on set 5 around the 7th rep Question: Do i just keep continuing to add weight and not care about the loss of reps? Or do i increase the 5x10 weight seperate from my 5/3/1 percentages with something like microplates in order to keep hitting the full 5x10? Thanks submitted by /u/bitterbanananana [link] [comments]

Cracking elbows from tri/bi exercises (Dips, curls) - help!

Cracking elbows from tri/bi exercises (Dips, curls) - help!I like doing heavy dips and curls 1-2 times/week. If I don't do them my elbow issues slowly abate, but dips are my favorite exercise. ANY tricep or bicep focusing exercise I notice does heavy stress on elbows :/ Aside from throwing out all tri/bi exercises (bleh), can anyone recommend alternatives to what I'm doing? It's only my left fucking elbow, but I don't want to have a chronic issue. submitted by /u/Runaway_5 [link] [comments]

“An Almost Anti-Intellectual Explanation”

Are the current ideas about the cause of obesity and diabetes completely wrong? Is the fixation on eating less and moving more for weight loss an “almost anti-intellectual explanation”?

That’s what science journalist Gary Taubes says in my interview with him – watch a segment above. Taubes has been investigating the field of nutritional science for over a decade and has come to some pretty interesting conclusions. Could the scientists have it all wrong?

Overweight guy looking for a little direction.

Overweight guy looking for a little direction. So I'm 25, roughly 280 5'9'' and I really want to change. My weight scares me I get tired easily and have little to no energy. I'm just looking for a good routine to slim down and maybe tone on the way. I haven't really worked out on a regular basis in a long time. When I walk into a gym I get lost rather easily. Anybody know of a good routine to try? Also is there any supplements anyone might recommend for this outcome? Thanks for any replies to this fitness idiot. submitted by /u/strictlyfate [link] [comments]

Would someone be able to tell me which muscle groups need to be specifically targeted for the following goals? (pics included)

Would someone be able to tell me which muscle groups need to be specifically targeted for the following goals? (pics included)My goal isnt to gain very much weight but definitely gain an amount of muscle in certain parts of my body to sort of re-proportion it. I havent found any information in the FAQ that specifically answers my question. This is me now: http://imgur.com/a/e8Kcu My goal is to have proportions more similar to these: http://imgur.com/a/7XKdq Im probably already about the size of the people in the photos but look at the definition on particularly the tattood fellow. It appears to me that i need to increase muscle in my obliques and biceps, so that my torso is filled in and appears more masculine. Even though the man is not very built, he just has low body fat, his baseline muscle is excellently aesthetically proportioned (in my opinion) I also just want to be able to have squared and defined shoulders in my neutral position like the man but without having large pectorials, and I would like to be able to sit comfortable in a chair or on a couch while keeping my back muscles active and looking natural while doing so submitted by /u/ihaveareallylongcock [link] [comments]

Am I eating too few calories while cutting?

Am I eating too few calories while cutting?I got tired of weighing 205 lbs. at 5'7" so I started getting my diet right at the end of January. I started using MFP and going to the gym at the end of February and since January 28th I have cut down to 177 lbs but it seems like my progress has slowed a bit since then. I am still being very meticulous about measuring my food and I am consistently eating between 950 - 1050 calories per day. My question is, is that too sharp of a cut. MFP recommends I eat 1500 per day to lose 2 lbs. per week. I have been going to the gym five days a week, doing SL M W F with some cardio after lifting and doing cardio only on T Th. I feel good, not tired at all. Getting plenty of sleep. Tl;dr version: am I harming myself by only eating 1000 calories / day even though I still feel good? EDIT: forgot to add that the only lift I have struggled on so far is OHP which I understand a lot of people struggle with. I stalled for the first time this past Wednesday at 65lbs. All of my other lifts have progressed and felt just fine. submitted by /u/FallenWalls [link] [comments]

tdee and fat macros??

Im 17, 5' 11" at 144lbs 14-16% Bf, just looking for opinions for what i should be eating to bulk lean, atm i'm doing 2500-2800 on training days, and maybe 2200 on rest? Is this too much for lean muscle gain, i want as low fat gain as possible, so is this sufficient? Also, macros... How much fat should i be taking in, because atm im thinking im taking in too much, around 100g or so, my other macros are 135g protein, and 270g of carbs on average, is this a good split? Should i try and increase carbs instead of fat, i know my protein intake is fairly sufficient.

Meal plan ideas

looking for inexpensive meal plan ideas, I have lived an unhealthy lifestyle with poor choices when it comes to meals. I started hitting the gym frequently lately and just looking into shredding weight because I heard 80% of weight loss is nutrition.

Should I take a break from working out?

I have always been fairly skinny but I have been able to add some weight since I have been lifting and trying to eat enough. However, I am a college student so there are times when I just do not have money to eat as much as I should. The past few days I have only been taking in ~800 calories. As expected my workouts kill me. Should I be laying off the gym until I can afford to eat more? Thanks for any advice!

Redditors who have gotten fit and your spouse is obese, how has it affected your life?

Redditors who have gotten fit and your spouse is obese, how has it affected your life?I've gotten in good shape and fitness is now firmly a part of my regular routine. On the other hand, my wife is teetering on the morbid obesity limit and has no interest in fitness. We both started out as completely average many years ago. It doesn't feel like a serious incompatibility issue but yet I never see couples like us and don't know any within our group of friends/acquaintances. So are any of you in a committed relationship with someone that is obese? Have any of you left a relationship because you got fit and they didn't? submitted by /u/pointer_toe [link] [comments]
