Finally decided the first week of February to pull myself out of a post-breakup rut. About 40lbs to lose due to excessive amounts of alcohol and generally not caring about anything.
Stepped on the scale - 187. Ok, I've been there before, I've gone from 187 to 145 in the past. I can do it again.
A week and 3 visits to the gym go by. I step back on the scale - 185. Not bad. I'm used to losing more in the first week, but it could be due to the fact that I haven't really slowed my drinking. So I cut back to just a couple of ounces of whiskey each night.
Another week and 3 visits to the gym go by. 184. Ok, something is wrong. Maybe it's because I haven't started doing weights yet. So I start my old weight routine and keep doing the cardio.
Another week passes. Feeling pretty good about myself while at the gym, I decide to step on the scale in the locker room - one of those analog sliding-weights scales. 170! Ok, there's no way I lost 14 lbs in a week. Especially after I had a few drinks over the weekend.
So I went home and weighed myself wearing the same items as I was at the gym. 182. My home scale is recording a whole TWELVE POUNDS heavy. Luckily I had measured the largest part of my stomach with tailor's tape before I began weeks prior. 2.25" down!
Moral of the story - don't get discouraged. Sometimes you plateau. Sometimes there are other factors like a junk scale. Just keep PRESSING. It'll work if you're persistent!
