Do you even lose calories from doing strength exercises?
About nine months ago I started losing weight. (23/F/296 lbs.) I did great and lost about forty pounds in four months or so, active on r/loseit the whole time. Then life got stressful and I gained most of it back since then. I moved across the country on my own, which doesn't help in the stress department. When I've scrolled on my front page, I've let myself just skip over r/loseit posts. I didn't want to think about how badly I'd fallen off.
Something awful happened on Saturday night. (WARNING: I'm about to describe an incident in which I was verbally attacked about my weight, so if you don't wanna read it, stop here). I was out with friends at 2 am or so, and we got on a trolley to go to a different part of town. We were all drunk of course. One of my friends sat in some guy's seat after he got up. The guy asked for the seat back but my friend kind of laughed it off because there were so many other empty seats on the bus. Well, that really pissed this guy off, and for some reason he started yelling at me. He said, "What about this fat fuck? No one wants to see that! No one wants to look at you!" I started crying and he said, "Yeah, you should feel bad, fatass." Luckily, my friends defended me, to the point where my friends got into a literal fight with the guy. We all got kicked off the bus, my friend has a black eye. It was devastating. I like to think of myself as a strong person with thick skin, but every time I close my eyes I see that guy yelling at me. Nothing like that has ever happened to me before. I know that guy is a loser and hates himself to lash out a stranger like that...but still. (I really needed to get that off my chest, so thank you for reading.)
I hate that it was a negative stimulus that is making me get back on the train, but c'est la vie, I guess. I'm back. And even though my life is crazy and controlling the way I eat can be really hard when that's the case, I'm gonna do my best to get back on. Wish me luck!
I've been overweight most of my life. I was skinny until I was 7 or 8 years old. For some reason I started to gain weight from that age.
My parents would let me eat whatever I want and would buy unhealthy food. Half of the time I was at my grandparents' and they also gave me too much food. Not on purpose of course but enough to let me become overweight.
Fast forward a couple years, lot of shit happened, even though my life was already complicated. Was taken away by Child Protection Services from my mum when I was 12 years old. That was a difficult time for me. Fast forward to puberty. At age 14-15 I became more and more depressed. I skipped school a lot, just stayed in bed and played video games for most of the time. This was the point where I became really overweight.
Meanwhile I just ate badly, a lot of fast food, sodas and more unhealthy stuff. At my heaviest I was around 85 kg's (around 187.5 pounds). Looking back at the pictures I feel ashamed..
About 4 years ago I started to exercise more, did a bit of running and fitness. I've been doing this off and on for the past 4 years but I can't seem to maintain a stable weight.
At the moment I weigh 78 kg (172 lbs) and am trying to lose more weight. I'm fairly short for a guy (asian genes), 169 cm or around 5'7''. So even a pound or two extra immediately makes me look heavier.
The problem with my eating is that I binge eat. Sometimes I can follow a healthy eating diet for a while, but I always cave in eventually and start eating horrible. When I feel bad or sad I eat to feel better.
What also doesn't help is that I have been smoking pot for the past 2 years. I eat a lot of fast food and other unhealthy stuff when I have the munchies.
A few days ago I decided to kick my habit of smoking weed for at least 3 months to not only get my weight in order but also the rest of my life.
I've been feeling unmotivated, lazy and depressed for the past year. My ex-gf broke up with me half a year ago and I really let myself drown in my depression.
I want to look in the mirror and be proud of myself. Being overweight makes me feel so insecure. I hate my stretch marks. I find it hard to talk to people because I feel insecure. I don't date because I'm insecure. I find it embarrassing when I shop for clothing.
Being overweight affects so many areas of my life and I want to feel 'normal' and be proud of how I look.
I think that I know what I have to do to lose weight. Count my calories, exercise regularly and change my lifestyle in whole.
I'm not sure why I'm posting this. I've never told anyone how insecure I am because of my weight. Too embarrassed about it I guess. Maybe I'm looking for encouragement and support. But I hope by posting this I can acknowledge to myself that I have a binge eating problem and that I want to do something about it.
Anyway this is me (23M /5'7''/172lbs) : http://ift.tt/1Ldaln6
PS. My appy polly logies if you find it hard to read this post. English is not my first language.
I count calories and manage to fit my snacks into my balance, but it's very easy for me to go overboard if I'm not careful. If I want something sweet or just plain unhealthy I plan for it to avoid sabotaging mselfy on accident, but I have this work-mate that insist on giving me food.
She knows I'm trying to cut back and sometimes scoffs when I remind her why ; saying I'm not fat and that I shouldn't worry about calories so much. At 5'4 and 138lbs I suppose I'm not all that overwieght, but that's not the point. A lot of my coworkers share food, but if I say I don't want any they drop the subject, not her though. Just yesterday I was telling her how I asked another one of our coworkers to help me out and not offer me food (this one buys candies and pastries all the time) and her response was that was too bad because she had some alfredo upstairs. I unfortunately ran into her at lunch and she had me eat some. Later that night she got a cinnamon bun from our bakery and when she saw me looking she literally shoved it into my face until I took a bite and swallowed (twice) saying she knew I loved it, I won't deny that it was good but I didn't want any.
What pisses me off is that she goes to the gym as well (off and on), but will turn around and eat like crap. Sometimes I feel like she does this because she isn't having any success with her goals, but I can't imagine her being so spiteful.
I started dieting and walking on Monday and I am already nearing 5 lbs loss. Is this normal? I heard that losing it too quickly can result in a lot of setbacks like gaining more weight than what you started with. Thanks! In case you are wondering I am a 5'5 M 178 lbs(181 on Monday)
I've been in uni for three years and dabbled with weight loss, but mostly with binge eating (which lead to my 20+ pound weight gain in two years). However, today's weight that I've been fighting tooth and nail for is definitively the lowest I can remember being while here (177.2) ! I've been working hard since Jan 16th and my next goal is 165. Hopefully I can hit this pretty soon because I'm dying to finally hit my 15% weight loss and start hearing some comments. I'm quite determined that this will be the last time I do horrible shit to my body (like bingeing and ballooning in weight), so I'm not depending on the comments, but theyll be nice to hear all the same.
Any tips for the next 12.2 pounds?
I've been quite strict with my diet (weighing everything, overestimating when eating out). I've also been working out 4-5 days a week, 45 mins-90 mins. Usually I go really hard on the cardio (heart rate 165-180) for 25-40 mins and then follow up with body weight/dumbbell exercises for around half an hour or more. I haven't been doing leg day/arm day splits, more like recognizing what in my body isn't sore and then working that out.
Any tips are greatly appreciated! Thanks guys!
The key to eating less is: when you're preparing something super tasty, make it, and then drop it on the floor. :| This happens to me way more often than it should. I'll be making a peanut butter sandwich, spread the PB on the toast, and then accidentally drop the freshly made PB side onto the floor, where it always lands PB side down. Today I found a sushi roll at the supermarket and I was so excited to eat it. I opened the box at home, dropped the chopsticks, so I bent over to pick them up, dragging the sushi box with me. Half the roll ended up on the floor. So I ate half a roll. Sigh... Apparently losing weight has made me clumsier. Or being clumsier is helping me lose weight.
